Ca|p|ro|lac|tam, hier ɛ-Caprolactam [Kurzw. aus Capronsäure u. ↑ Lactam] Syn.: 6-Aminohexansäurelactam, Azepan-2-on: farblose Kristalle, Smp. 69 °C, die haupts. zur Gewinnung von Polyamid 6 (z. B. Perlon) benutzt werden.

Caprolactam
 
[lateinisch], ε-Caprolactam, das innere Amid (Lactam) der 6- oder ε-Aminocapronsäure, H2N—(CH2)5—COOH; weiße, kristalline Substanz, die v. a. zur Herstellung von Polyamidfasern sowie auch von Kunststoffen verwendet wird. Caprolactam wird technisch nach unterschiedlichen Verfahren (ausgehend von Cyclohexan, auch von Phenol oder Toluol) hergestellt.
